Despite the 12th General Elections and everyone’s merry making, I hope we will not forget the HINDRAF 5. They continue to languish inside Kamunting on ISA charges.
See Malaysiakini.
The five - P Uthayakumar, M Manoharan, T Vasantha Kumar, V Ganabatirau and R Kenghadharan - were held on Dec 13 for exercising their right to freedom of expression o Nov 25. A right enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which ironically, Malaysia is a party to.
They were also sentenced to a two-year detention under the draconian Act, for demanding for their rights, although that included accusing UMNO and the government for racism and discrimination.
As expected, the Kuala Lumpur High Court rejected their harbeas corpus application today, re-affirming the ISA, backing the BN regime.
The detainees’ counsels Karpal Singh and his son Gobind Singh Deo was present in court among 300 HINDRAF supporters. Inspite of their election campaigns, they have not neglected their duty to the Hindu action group.
So why should we?

Hindraf vowed to punish BN in March 8 general elections; Indians would cast protest vote and teach the PM Abdullah a lesson in the election. We will reject his government; A worldwide protest on the 100th day of detention (on March 22),
Meanwhile, time is running out for Samy Vellu and he is in a state of despair. Right up to election time, he still cannot fathom the problems faced by his countrymen when he declared he would lead MIC's elected representatives on “a state-by-state visit to find out the problems on the ground after the elections”. In the meantime he questioned Hindraf’s motive when he said
“You want to finish up the MIC. After all who, who is going to be there? You are not a Political Party, you don’t have politics. You have a handful of 10,000 Indians with you all young people. What is your plan? What is the future for the Indians? What are you going to do for the Indians? Do you see the sick people? Do you educate the Indian youths?” More details at
