Opposition leader Lim Kit Siang's presence and issues raised by Hindraf are the two most the worrying factors for Perak Barisan Nasional in the coming general election.

Perak BN chairman and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohd Tajol Rosli Ghazali said Lim being a veteran opposition politician was no ordinary person.

“In the last polls, he contested in Ipoh Timur and (due to his presence) we also lost Ipoh Barat. We must be extra careful especially when DAP had said that they would go all out to retain and also capture other seats." he told reporters after chairing the state BN coordination committee meeting here on Monday.

BN lost the Ipoh Barat, Ipoh Timur and Batu Gajah parliamentary seats and the Pasir Pinji, Jelapang, Menglembu and Keranji state seats to DAP in the 2004 elections. All these seats were contested by MCA candidates. Lim is Ipoh Timur MP while DAP vice-chairman M. Kulasegaran is Ipoh Barat MP.

Tajol Rosli said the contest for these seats would be much tougher this time around as the DAP, PKR and PAS had agreed not to fight each other but take on BN in a one to one battle instead.

On Hindraf, the Perak Menteri Besar expressed confidence that the Indian community would continue to support BN although a lot of issues were raised in the last two months.

"We are facing a situation similar to the 1999 polls when BN was worried about Malay voters. We were lucky to have the support of MCA, Gerakan and MIC then."
