BATU PAHAT: The police will monitor the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) closely because of its alleged links with terrorists, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said.

The Prime Minister said he knew about the links and had asked Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan to make it public.

“My order is for the police to keep a close watch on them,” he said at a press conference here during his two-day visit to Johor yesterday.

Asked if he would use the Internal Security Act on Hindraf members, Abdullah said it was an option that he would keep open to see if it was viable or not.

“If it reaches a dangerous level, then we know what we have to do,” he said.

Later when speaking at a Bakri MCA division gathering in Muar, Abdullah said he would not tolerate those who wanted to jeopardise the nation’s security and stability.

He said he could be soft, hard, flexible or even stern, but he would not tolerate “nonsense” or allow anyone to destroy the nation.

“Malaysia is for those who love the country and who also respect the laws of the country. Every Malaysian has rights and we must protect the harmonious living and stability we all enjoy at all cost,” he said.

During the event, Abdullah presented a total of RM1mil to three Chinese schools and one Chinese cultural association, the Kung Seng Keng Lion Dance group.

Speaking in Segamat earlier, Abdullah said it hurt him that Malaysians, and not foreigners, had accused the Government of ethnic cleansing.

Speaking during a meet-the-people session, he said the Government loved every Malaysian and would do everything to help the people regardless of race or religion.

“The Government has been kind and considerate towards the people for the past 50 years. It will continue to do so for as long as the people give their support to the Barisan Nasional,” he said.

Braving the rain here to speak to the people, Abdullah, who was accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Jeanne Abdullah, said if the Government had been cruel towards any particular group, it would not be able to include non-Malay and non-Muslim ministers.

He said the Barisan adopted a power-sharing concept and had been practising it for the past 50 years. He believed the people would continue to support the Barisan administration.

“This Government has the support of the people. This Government will plan. This Government has policies and implementation plans.

“This Government will find the money and allocations and this Government has the machinery to implement them,” he said.
