Malaysia: Parliament To Dissolve Soon

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Thursday (31 Jan) that he is “about to” to dissolve the parliament and hold the 12th general election.

“I'm about to (announce it),” he said after he opened the Pavilion shopping complex.

The rumour widely going on that Abdullah is likely to dissolve the parliament during the Chinese New Year period. Meanwhile, the polling day would be held before mid-March, so that he can attend the Organisation of The Islamic Conference in Senegal from 8 to 14 Mac .

On the other hand, Abdullah added that he will not stop Chief Ministers or Mentris Besar from expressing their forecasts on the coming elections.

As to the appeal by the former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad Wednesday (30 Jan) to the voters to change the Barisan Nasional (BN) and United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), Abdullah said the voters will choose the outcome they want.

The prime minister said that he would meet representatives of non-governmental organizations to discuss local racial issues, without the need to meet with representatives of the opposition.
